This is exactly what Dr. Drexler argues.

"If all that a teacher does is sit there and say click here and type that then who would want to teach anyways?" And who advocates this? Certainly not Dr. Drexler.

"I feel like you should be able to answer any question that a student gives you even if it takes you a minute. I feel like students should be able to lean on their teachers when they need help not on the internet." Wow! Do you really believe that you must be the fountain of all knowledge on "your subject matter"? Good luck. It will never happen. We all must be learners. All the time.

"In my opinion I don't like the fact that kids are even using computers." Then you should consider another profession. You can't stop it!

"I think that there is no use for that information until middle school." Really? I would like to hear the reaction of the 3rd graders to this.

"Our generation relies on technology way to much and doesn't know how to go on without it." And you are not going to change that! too much, not to much

"But instead we have to put everything we know about an old windows computer aside and relearn how to use a mac." Yes indeed! If we quit learning we will end up at the very bottom of the economic ladder. The same is true if we fail to embrace technology. People can choose to do that, but they need to know the choices they are making.

I am very serious when I suggest that you reconsider being a teacher. The world has changed. Teachers with your views will not be successful. Nor will their students. Technology has won, whether you like it or not. Our task is to be sure that we and out students can make technology a positive and effective tool for learning and for living. I assure you that banning it will never work!
John Hadley Strangehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17484977903995419205noreply@blogger.com
